The highest peaks could never leave us daunted
And these brains, they know no bounds
The heavens, boys, they’re ours for the taking
That’s the spirit! It walks this world so nonchalant
Trudges along unstable grounds
It guards the prison of our own making

He said “I am not afraid to fail,
You miss every shot not taken”
Pulled the trigger and blew off his toes
Humanity, oh sure it could prevail
But to leave that dove forsaken
Is to never find out where the olives grow
And I guess that goes to show

If flown in a branch from ‘cross the sea
We’d snap it and get to weaving
Then should hope rear its ugly head
We could send it to hell in a hand basket

Out the plaster and into his mouth
His wife said “Lets go on vacation.
You can lean on me. Don’t need to bring a crutch.”
Packed the car, a little further south
He left her at a service station
Never liked the taste of olives all that much
Nothing’s ever good enough

We could be so blissful if we wanted
But the human spirit built the house just to haunt it
How we’ve grown to love the burn
The self-sabotage at every turn
They say "we’re only human"
It’s kind of how it’s always been

His bachelor pad, it’s got a bed and tv
And a fridge, almost empty
Just a bag that reads “dead dove: do not eat”
